Can’t sleep… clowns will eat me.

August 24, 2005 § 10 Comments

I’m going nuts here. I start class tomor— er– today. That is.. in a few hours. ugh. Going nuts.

So I’m multi-tasking. Listening to teaching tapes while reading James and 1 Peter; considering doing a little bible study for kicks; and debating on different things i could post on while twiddling my thumbs…

Here’s an interesting article in three parts that is sure to ruffle a few feathers.

Cheers!

thanks for the well wishes! Hope you aren’t being kept up against your will as well! *gently hugs just in case*

She IS very snuggliable, as I have been blessed to snuggle and cuddle her muchly… as is her sister šŸ™‚
(in this icon is her sister- Nina) Being that you are on my friends list, I am sure you have seen me make mention of them, as I am one VERY proud WolfPuppy Momma.
Glad I could make you smile.. though sorry about your dog.
    Have a good one.
nope I cant sleep either- partly due to pain, partly due to worry for a beloved friend who has to have his dog put to sleep today šŸ˜¦
    Thanks for the concern.
    *hugs*

    Noooo, not the clowns!!!
    Clowns r evil!!!
    Ahem…
Hope your first day was wonderful!!!
Woah. I read that article and was so wanting to find a flaw. I mean, I’ve been told and have read that a person who was the victim of adultry could remarry. I just did a word study with Logos. It seems that the article was onto something. The NASB even interprets πορνεια as ‘unchastity’ in Matt 5:32. Hrm. The NT Theological dictionary has this and 19:9 down as ‘adultry’. But looking at the context of both verses, it is becoming clear to me that remarriage was not explicitly allowed (heck, doesn’t even look like it’s implicitly allowed either!).
Woah. I need to soak this in. Thanks for the link. It’s always wonderful to be prompted into deeper study!
Now I need to find some writings by the early church fathers on this.

Plus, with these verses being in Matthew, and Jesus was speaking to Jews in both these contexts (even the Pharisees in the 19:9), so a Jewish view of unchastity has to be asserted…
    Wow, just… wow

Hermas and Tertullian are great places to look. I just re-listened to the teaching on the way in to school, and the early church only ever used the broader word “porneia” (I know I’ve spelled that wrong) and they state that the only reason to divorce a wife is due to continued, unreopentant adultery. But rthe husband is explicitly commanded NOT to remarry, but to remain single in the hopes of his wife repenting. If and when she does, he is commanded to take her back. Ummm… I can’t remember which writer it was tho, said that if she falls again, he should not take her back, because there is only one repentance allowed to us. it would be an affront to God’s grace. It echoed Hebrews. I’ll find out what that was for you.
And wives divorcing their husbands is right out. that has never been an option.
    Cool stuff, huh?

Yeah, no kidding. Nothing like a little bit of studying that knocks some preconceived ideas right out the door. Guess that’s why we ought to study daily šŸ™‚

  • Just wanted to say I love the new look. Very readable. =)
How did that first day go?

  • DT says:

Thanks! First day went well– I think my prof and I have a lot in common. Should be an interesting class!
