So much to do…

September 15, 2010 § 5 Comments

Well, it’ not even 10 AM and I’ve already gotten much accomplished… or at least underway. I finally decided to bust out of avoidance mode and tackle my kitchen. One load if dishes is in the wash, and another shall soon follow. Big on the priority list is to sort and chuck, and sweep and mop that floor!

We have a lot to do and a ton going on right now. Matt and I have decided to sell the house and downsize to MUCH smaller accommodations (i.e. the apartment basement of some friends of ours,) which will require paring down to the bare minimum. We’ll be having a MEGA yard sale on Oct 16th, details to follow and adverts will be posted on FaceBook prior to the event. Anyone looking for coffeehouse items, please check it out! There may even be a refrigerated pastry case on display…

I actually have a ginormous do-to list for today. Aside from regular housekeeping type stuff, I still need to:

  • Call around to find a FREE licensed kitchen
  • Check out Heeby’s and compare cabinet/countertop prices to the quote I got from Lowe’s last night
  • write a proposal letter to a local baker seeking a mutually beneficial business relationship
  • Call the PDA (Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture) about starting up a food business
  • pick up my prescription TODAY!!
  • get Matt from work

This doesn’t include our regular Wednesday running around, either.

In order to move in to the basement, we have to finish finishing it though. Right now, the walls, roughed-in plumbing, and wiring is mostly done, but we need to finish tying things in, put in cabinets and counters, install lighting, and finish the flooring. We got a quote from Lowe’s (as mentioned above) and it is incredibly expensive to have it professionally done.

Thankfully, I have pro relatives and lots of semi-pro friends, so all I need to do is take my basic plans and shop around and compare for materials only. Since we basically have an open floor plan, we are planning to make the kitchen as pro as we can– on a shoestring. Of course, the apartment is a quarter of the size of our house, so we will need to really streamline!

Aside from the downsizing, Matt is trying to launch his baking business. We have one (potential) customer right now, but need to secure a licensed kitchen in order to move forward. They LOVE the desserts we prepared for them, now we just need to go all official. If we can find a kitchen that will let us come in once a week for free to start, that will help us immensely! We also need to practice and develop more recipes.

There’s a lot on our plate right now. Downsizing, starting up, economizing, streamlining, innovating, not to mention running all over creation… yeah. Lots on our plate!

I pray it all works in your favor… and God’s! =D Sounds like a lot to get done, but know you will enjoy the ride.
Take care of yourselves and lots of *hugs* for the Thies family. =) Wish you all were closer. *sigh*

That’s very ambitious. Is there any way to get yourself settled before embarking on the business aspect? Remodeling and moving are so stressful; I wouldn’t want to add further dimensions to the mix.
    I wish you the best.

I wish we were closer too! I was so wiped out by the time i wet to go get Matt, I was falling asleep while driving! Matt drove home, while I slept, and when we got home, I could barely drag myself in bed. SO much to do, and SO EXHAUSTING!

Well, everything seems to be happening all at once. We suddenly (and unlooked for!) got a customer, which technically happened before we had a business, but we are willing to go with it. lol
WHen it rains, it pours, I guess, but hopefully those drops I feel are blessing!!

The US seems so small at times, but at times like these it is so far! Currently, with nothing to do (not college this term) but sit and wait for a job opportunity, I would love to assist you in business things and with your beautiful baby girl. (Love the new pic, btw) =D
Remember to take care of yourselves. A tired mom is of no use to a little one. You must take time out for you as well. *hugs* and I pray this is God’s will.
